Secret Aurora

Level III

Write down the secret information on a piece of paper with your name on it.  Hand the paper to your teacher when you arrive at class.  If correct you will earn euros.  Make sure you have the correct Level and lesson.  DON’T tell your classmates the secret information.

Level III
For Lesson 1 – In America we say “Dutch Treat” to mean each person pays separately. In Italy, it’s alla Romana (in the Roman style).

For Lesson 2 – The first road designed for high speed cars was built in Italy in 1924 called the Autostada. In English it means “expressway”

For Lesson 3 – Our word “vacation”, “vacanza” in Italian, comes from the Latin vacare (to become empty). Other words from this root are: “evacuate”, “vacuum”, and “vacancy”

For Lesson 4 – Two of the smallest countries in the world are both inside Italy: Vatican City (in Rome) and the country of San Marino (near Venice)

For Lesson 5 – The “were” in werewolf comes from the Latin “vir” meaning “a man”. The Romans pronounced the v as a w.

For Lesson 6 - The Italian word levare means “to lift” or “to raise”. Get an extra euro for one English word you find that uses this root.
