College Issues
Letter to the
Chicago Tribune Magazine,
August 24, 2008
Just a word of thanks for Jessica Reaves' excellent story about Matthew
Pietrafetta ("The College Issue," Aug. 3). This high-energy educator
is part of a long line of teachers of Italian heritage in the U.S., from Dr.
Leonard Covello (principal of the first multicultural high school) to Dr. Anna
Anastasi (the first to discover standardized cultural bias in national testing).
We're sure that Pietrafetta 's passion will make a difference in his students'
lives. And we appreciate your willingness to remind people that Italian Americans
are made up of more than just pizza and pasta.
